The Governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Kwara, Comrade Issah Aremu has the transparency and openness the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Malam Garba Attahiru-Madami displayed during the two elections in the state.
Aremu said this on Tuesday when he led executive members of the party on a courtesy call on the REC in his office in Ilorin.
He said the liberation of the people of Kwara was made possible by the impartiality, transparency, openness and honesty of the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
According to Aremu, the people of the state have never had a Resident Commissioner as opened, honest, transparent and with impeachable integrity like the present REC.
“Indeed, you are a man of honour and integrity. You are the man that has made that the people’s vote counted during the elections, this has never happened in the state before,” Aremu said.
The LP governorship candidate said INEC has proved to the world that it was capable of conducting credible election.
“I want to through you commend INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu for the success of the elections.
“For us in Labour Party, you are our number one REC in the country for the role you played to ensure the liberation of Kwara people.
“Kwara election is about liberating the state from oppression of one individual over the entire state.
“When I declared my governorship ambition in July 18, 2018, I said goal is the liberation of Kwara, you have made it possible,” Aremu said.
According to him, his ambition to rule the state was not a personal one, hence his declaring his support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Earlier, the State Secretary of the party, Comrade Abdulkareem Onagun expressed appreciation of the party to the REC for the wonderful job he did in conducting the freest election in Kwara.
“We cannot quantify the action and steps you have taken to make the election a huge success in Kwara.
“It is only God that can reward you for what you have done to the people of Kwara for the free, credible elections you have conducted,” Onagun added.
The Resident Commissioner, Attahiru-Madami in his remarks, thanked the LP governorship candidate for the visit, adding; “I am highly overwhelmed with joy for the visit.”
He said he was very happy that the entire INEC staffers in Kwara have not disappointed the people of the state.
According to Attahiru-Madami, the credit of the success of the election goes to the entire people of the state that conducted themselves peacefully during the elections.
“The credit of the success of the 2019 elections goes to the people of Kwara for trusting and believing in me that I can deliver credit election.
“Everybody in Kwara contributed one way or the other to the success of the election,” Attahiru-Madami added.
The REC therefore appealed to all political parties to come together to develop the state.
“My appeal to all the political parties is to come together to form an inclusive government to develop Kwara.
“Infrastructure is decaying in Kwara, political gymnastic is over, let us sit down together to move the state forward,” Attahiru-Madami said.
The REC also appealed to the Governor-elect to call everybody together and brainstorm on how to move the state forward.
