The Members of the Nigerian House of Representative has decided to look into some contracts awarded in the past twenty years, Minority Leader, of the House , Abuja, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu has explained .
He noted that the decision of the House to probe all the Contracts awarded by successive civilian administrations at the Centre from the inception of the nascent democratic experience in the country in 1999 till date was not meant to witch hunt anyone.
He said the decision of the current House of Representative members at the National Assembly Abuja to embark on the probe is to ensure that the huge sums of money spent on such contract awards was commensurate with the executed capital projects across the country in the past 20years.
Elumelu made the clarrifications in an interactive session with the newsmen on Tuesday shortly after his closed door meeting with former Military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, at his Uphill Mansion in Minna, the Niger State capital.
The Minority Leader, House of Representatives, Abuja, had in conjunction with some leaders of the Minority Caucus in the National Assembly paid a courtesy visit to the former Military Leader and tactician in his Minna, Niger State country home to express their appreciation to him over some roles the former Nigerian Leader played during the campaigns and over their recent emergence and inauguration as the Leaders of the Minory Caucus in the National Assembly , as well as seeking his advice in their stwardship as Federal Legislators.
He cited the example of the power sector and asked if every Nigerians is enjoy regular electricity supply in parts of the country presently, sayimg “we are not witch hunting anybody, rather the House is clearly meant to ensure that as Nigerians, that when you go home and the light is on, when you are going to bed at night, you switchs off the light and when you wake up in the morning, you switch on the light”.
He however asked if that is what is happening now in the country, noting that ” how do we know when so much money had been spent in the Power Sector especially, and it is not commensurate with the Kilowatts, but not even the Megawatts that was connected with was connected with the National Grid”.
He pointed out that those are the areas the 9th House of Representatives members wanted to look at .
