The recently flag off of the reconstruction of 84kilomeer Minna – Bida road will be given a close marking Niger state legislators assured members of the public.
The State House of Assembly said its obligation of sustaining oversight function to ensure contracted projects award meet its required standard specification to avoid being surcharged by contractors handling works in the state.
Speaker of the house Hon. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse represented by member representing Lavun who is the House Committee Chairman on Works, Hon. Ndagi Jibrin Baba gave the assurance during an interview at the flag off ceremony of Minna – Bida road reconstruction project on Friday .
He stated that the era of contractors surcharging citizens of the state was over just as the current lawmakers will not relent in carrying out its legislative mandate to ensuring that the right thing was done according to contractual specifications or face the wrath of the law.
The lawmaker assured of sustainable oversight function especially on the Multimillion Naira Minna, Kataeregi and Bida road project to ensure the durability of the work after its completion hence the project standard must be maintained.
He reiterated the commitment of the assembly to give its full support to the executive in the provision of dividend of democracy through its social amenities provision to the electorates.
While appreciating the state government for the project that is to the sum of N23.9 billion to be completed within 18 months however called for the cooperation, support and understanding of the benefiting communities and their leaders for a hitch free of the entire project.
In his remarks, Executive Director of Dantata and Sawoe, Engineer Nasir Abubakar Dantata said the success of the project requires the cooperation and understanding of different parties especially the communities to succeed but will use the next two weeks for environmental impact assessment before its proper commencement.
Performing the flagged off ceremony at Kpakungu the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello said the project monetary mechanism for its implementation committee was in place to ensure quality standard was maintained added that when completed would boost economic activities for all traders along the road.
Represented by Commissioner of Works and Infrastructural Development, Engr. Ibrahim Mohammad Panti who explained that it would also hasten the movement of goods and services between Minna Bida and adjourning villages noted that the road serves as major link between North and Southern part of Nigeria.
