Niger State Government flags off reconstruction of Minna – Bida roads

The official ground breaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the 84 kilometer Minna – Bida road was Friday carried out by Niger state governor Abubakar Sani Bello .
The road contract was awarded at the cost of twenty three point nine billion naira won by Messrs Cantata Sawoe construction firm.

Performing the flagged off at a colourful ceremony at Kpakungu the Governor said the project when completed would boost economic activities for all traders along the road.

The state Commissioner of Works and Infrastructural Development Engineer Ibrahim Mohd Panti stood in for the governor who explained that it would also hasten the movement of goods and services between Minna- Bida and adjourning villages.

He said the award of contract followed depth of neglect of the road by successive governments in the state despite the significance of the road which serves as major link between North and Southern part of Nigeria.

Governor Sani Bello added that the road was last renovated in the ninetees which is the largest trunck B road to be constructed by the state government since inception forty four years ago.

The Governor directed state ministry of Works to put in place resident engineers in the project implementation committee to ensure that project contractor applied highest degree of professionalism to carry out quality work as contractually specified.

Sani Bello said the state government has constructed numerous road projects spread across the state while several others were at various degree of completion.

Executive Director of the company Engineer Nasir Dantata said the success of the project requires the cooperation and understanding of different parties especially the communities and called for more to succeed.

He however added that they have eighteen months duration for the completion of the project.
