PDP kicks against rationalisation committee in Niger State.

Tunde Bolaji – Minna

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state has kicked against the inauguration of a 15 man committee to rationalised civil service in the state.

According to the State Chairman of the Party, Barrister Tanko Beji in a statement in Minna, the state capital threatened that any attempt by governor Abubakar Sanni Bello to sack the state workforce will be resisted.

The party said it has received with sadness the news of a certain committee set up by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to rationalize the Civil Service of the state.

He declared “We are very worried because anytime rationalization is brought to the fore, it only ends up in Sacking the already pauperised civil servants who are groaning under unprecedented level of inflation, insecurity and lack of adequate welfare by Government.”

It disclosed that the party is very much aware that with the agreement reached by the state Government and Labour Unions in the state over the full implementation of the N30,000 Minimum wage the state is looking for ways to reduce workers which is unnecessary.
The party maintained that decision was unpopular and uncalled for given the quantum of resources accruing to the state from federation allocation, Internally Generated Revenue, Loans, grants, draws downs from development partners like RAMP and SDGs.

The state government was advised that rather than reduce or frustrate the poor civil servants with Rationalisation the Governor should first and foremost reduce his cost of travels to atleast twice in a month instead of frequently, cut unnecessary appointees, explain his security vote and cut it down by 50%, cut down the recurrent votes of each agencies.

The Governor should also immediately do a forensic audit of all capital projects’ budget of the past 5 years and maybe he would realised that alot has gone out and nothing is there to show. A good example is the N126billion capital expenditure for 2019 budget the Honorable Member from Borgu in the state Assembly lamented about on the floor of the house.

“As it is today, Joblessness of the teeming youth is a fertile ground for Insecurity that has pervaded the state, throwing workers into the job market will only aggravate the already bad situation.

We therefore will join the labour unions to resist any attempt to rationalize, sack or reduce the Labour force.

“The state should be proactive, creative, innovative and more focus than just instinctive wannabe reaction.”, the party added.
