The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), said it will shut down states of the Federation if the implementation of financial autonomy of state Houses of Assembly is not implemented.
National President of the Association, Mohammed Usman, disclosed this on Thursday during a courtesy visit on the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi.
Usman explained that the implementation of financial autonomy for state Houses of Assembly is important because it would among others, strengthen the legislative duties of the state Lawmakers as well as ensure optimal productivity by staff of each Assembly.
According to him the umbrella body of the Association is also concern about the need for the establishment of state Houses of Assembly Service Commission, adding that members of the Association have been patient for too long and will do all they could to actualise the dream.
” We will move to ensure that the state Houses of assembly financial autonomy is implemented, We have being patient for long over the delay in the implementation of the financial autonomy, If things are not done appropriately as provided by the Law and our rights being denied,we will have no option than to shut down Assemblies and the states as a whole,” he posted.
Usman who commended the speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, for the cordial relationship between the Lawmakers and members of the Association in the state, called on him to sustain the relationship.
He assured that members of the Association is determined and will continue to work with government at all levels to ensure speedy development of the country.
Responding, Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who appreciated the National President of PASAN and his team for the visit, said the implementation of financial autonomy to staff of Assemblies would further boost their productivity.
Represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Nehemiah Tsentse Dandaura, the Speaker said,
” I have heard all what you have said, the financial autonomy itself came from the presidency and we have given it our support and by God’s grace it will be implemented”.
Balarabe who pointed out that Nasarawa state has already established an Assembly service Commission, said the implementation of the financial autonomy would be of benefit to all Nigerians.
He promised to contribute his quota towards the actualisation of the Association’s demands.
