An educationalist, Chief Layi Lawuyi has bblamd the former governors in osun state over deteriorating state of education sector in the state, saying they had bastardized the sector.
Speaking on Rafe FM 91.70, monitored by our correspondent, on the review of education policies in the state.
It would be recalled that the state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola had recently inaugurated a committee to review the state education policies with a view to revamping the sector. The 13- man committee was chaired by Professor Olu Aina and consisted of other seasoned educationists.
According to him, the 2010/11 Aregbesola’s education reform was a complete failure, the policy was wrongly implemented.
He noted that it was Bisi Akande that laid wrong foundation for the sector by sacking teachers in the state and the state had not gotten out of the wound. Oyinlola couldn’t heel the wound but employed unqualified teachers to teach with the hope of reducing wage bill. Every government runs away from paying teachers better salary, then resulted in implementing bad policy and the result is what we are seen.
“It is not well with our education. I scored Aregbesola 75% in policy formulation on education but 20% in implementation. His education policy was wrongly implemented and politicised. He failed woefully in implementation and propaganda dominatrix the system”.
“Osun should go back to national 188.8.131.52 policy. Osun is the only state operating different education system where primary 5 and 6 pupils are fused with junior secondary school and the policy is inconsistent with national education policy. The primary 5 and 6 pupils should go back to their former schools. Osun has scheme of work that is not in line with the national scheme”.
Chief Lamuye said the single school uniform policy be removed and go back to old uniform system, stressing that the present single uniform had created crisis, insecurity and makes it difficult to identify which school students belong.
He opined that multiple schools system in a compound be jettisoned, noting that schools should be renovated and equipped with update teaching facilities.
“The present schools built by Aregbesola are good but cannot be maintained. The morale of the teachers are at low elb even many of them have resigned and took better jobs else where”.
He recommends to the review committee to see into teachers salary, promotion, motivation, welfare and qualified teachers with TRCN be employed and not to make teaching all-commer profession.
Lamuye commended governor Gboyega Oyetola for his courage to set up education review committee, urging him to implement the recommendations of the committee to improve the standard of education in the state.
Speaking, Mrs Funmi Araoye, identified inadequate teachers, lack of teaching resources, libraries, laboratories, school guidance and counseling services, poor salary and inspection as bane of education sector in the state.
Araoye, therefore, urged the committee to come up with good recommendations that can revamp the education system and enjoined the state governor to implement the committee’s recommendations.
