Group accuses Kwara State COED, Oro of secret, illegal recruitment

- - College says it is legal replacement.

A group – Justice and Equity Forum has accused the authority of College of Education, Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara of secret illegal recruitment.

In a statement made available to Spear Gists in Ilorin, signed by their chairman, Joseph Iranloye and secretary, Mohammed Alabi, the group alleged that the ongoing secret recruitment in the institution is illegal.

However, the spokesman for the College, Kannike denied the accusation saying it is legal.

While the group alleged that the school authority has no power to recruit any staff without the existence and approval of a Governing Council as there is no Governing Council in place currently. The college spokesman said that the recruitment is with the approval of the State Government who are the owners of the institutioas “all the necessary apparatus of Government has been consulted for approval before carrying it out.”

As the group alleged that the secret recruitment is without any legal and known procedural, transparent manner but skewed to put personal protege in places in the school. The group further faulted the process as they alleged that there was no due process like advertisement of the vacant positions. However, the College argued that “what is taking place is replacement of retired personnel as well as the dead, among others.”

The group alleged that no fewer than 47 non-academic staff of the institution has been secretly, illegally recruited in the exercise. While the spokesman added that “the group raising the alarm are disgruntled elements whose personal interests have not been favoured by the exercise as they could not get what they want.”
