Nasarawa state Governor, Abdullahi Sule has confirmed that three police men and a driver in the convey of the state Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe, were on Tuesday killed by armed robbers along Nassarawa Eggon- Akwanga road.
According to him, an unidentified commercial driver was also shot dead by the robbers at the scene of the incident.
The Governor stated this during an emergency security meeting on Wednesday at the Government House in Lafia.
Abdullahi Sule who expressed his administration’s determination to address crime and other forms of insecurity in the state, assured that Government will do all it could to fish out perpetrators of the killing to face the Law of the land.
He promised that the state Government will assist families of the killed police personnel.
It would be recalled that the three police men and a civilian driver were part of the Deputy Governor’s convey on official assignment to Abuja when they were ambushed by the robbers.
An eye witnessed said the armed robbers blocked the road and were robbing commuters when deputy Governor’s convey heard of the it, prompting the deputy and some others stopped behind while the police escort went ahead to clear the road that they were ambushed, killed, their arms and ammunitions carted away.
Meanwhile, one of the victims has been buried according to Islamic rite. Relatives, friends and sympathizers who were at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Mortuary to convey the corpse of the victim on Wednesday morning for burial could not control their tears.
