MACBAN raises alarm over alleged killing of its members

Leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa State Chapter, on Monday attributed the recent killing of four Fulanis to some Tiv people in Kadarko, Giza Development Area of the state.

The accusation was made by the Chairman of the Association, Mohammed Hussaini, during an interview with Newsmen in Lafia, the state Capital.

The Chairman who disclosed that there are proves to show that tiv people were responsible for the killing of the four herdsmen, said the victims were among nine Fulanis that were attacked recently at two locations, adding that the remaining five persons who received various forms of injuries are presently receiving treatment in hospital.

He said unquantified number of Cows belonging to the affected persons were killed, many others were also stolen.

According to him,he has already visited the area and appealed to his people to avoid reprisal attack.

He called on Government as well as Security agencies to do their best possible to address the problem of tiv and herdsmen to pave way for peaceful coexistence.

In a telephone interview, the President, Tiv Development Association (TIDA) in the state, Boniface Ifer, disassociated the Tiv people in Nasarawa State from the attack and killing of any Fulani.

Boniface ifer who explained that, from his investigation the problem started from Yalewata area of Benue State when some herdsmen crossed the border to graze in Benue, said the attackers were from Benue State and not the Tiv people of Nasarawa state.
According to him the Tiv people in Nasarawa state do not have any reason to attack herdsmen as they do not have any problem with them, adding that the Tiv people in the state are just returning to their communities after the incessant attacks on their communities that kept them away from farming activities for long and cannot do anything that would prevent them again from carrying out their farm work.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of Nasarawa State Command, Nansel Ramhan said the matter has been reported to the divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Kadarko, assuring that investigation into the matter has since began.

According to him the DPO of the area has mobilized his men to the area to forestall any breakdown of Law and order.

The Police spokesman, however appealed to the people of the area to remain calm, as effort is ongoing to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.
