Tunde Bolaji – Minna
Former Military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has expressed concerns over the ongoing armed banditry, kidnappings and other forms of insecurity situation plaguing the country.
He has therefore urged the government and well meaning Nigerians to come together with the view to find a lasting solution to the problems, saying, after all this country belongs to all of us.
He stated this when he played host to the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Abuja, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu in conjunction with the other leadership of the opposition parties in the Lower Chambers of the National Assembly which included Hon. Adekoya Adesegun , Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Efe Afe, Hon. Kpam Jimin Sokpo, Hon. Robert Tyough and Hon . Soyinka Abiola among others who paid him a courtesy call at his Up Hill Mansion in Minna, the Niger State capital.
The former Nigerian Leader, however described Nigeria as a very complex and difficult nation, charging political leaders in the country to be determined, resilient and be prepared to do the wishes of the citizenry, stressing that the country was blessed with very vibrant people.
“But, from my experiences I used to say that for every opinions you may have in Nigeria as a leader, you also have many opinions elsewhere many other people. So, that is what Nigeria is .
“It is a very complex country and very vibrant society and for everything you do, somebody is there to know whether you are right or wrong.
“But what is important is the determination because, the people are very resilient for the benefits of this country.
“Almost all the leaders and the citizens should move closer to God to pray for the country and I will be praying for all of you”, said Babangida.
He thereby enjoined the leadership of the House of Representatives from the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to the members of the opposition parties in the House, which included the Hon. Ndudi Elumelu among others who he said represented the good people of Nigeria to always do the wishes of the people at their respective constituents, who voted them into power, while urging them not to give up on the country.
Earlier in his remarks, the Minority Leader, Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu informed General Babangida that he and his members were in his residence in Minna specifically to introduce themselves, the leadership of the Minority Cacaus to the former Nigerian leader, now that they have been formally inaugurated in their onerous task to provide good governance to the people of Nigeria.
He however stated that this might not have been possible for him and members of his Cacaus until they have first of all thank him for his fatherly roles during the struggle to be in the principal positions as the leaders of the Minority Cacaus of the House of Representatibes,Abuja, and to seek his blessings.
Elumelu, said that “then, we put a call to you, and you asked us to relax ourselves that you are going to handle the matters. And eventually you did and that informed why we now decided as the leadership of the Minority group in the House and other members feel that this cannot have happened without them following us to say a big thank you and to seek your fatherly advice as the country is facing some challenges in which insecurity of lives and property is part of it”
“Other things are happening in Nigeria. Of course we have some people calling for a Revolution, and now that we are coming here this day it will give us the opportunity for you to give us the fatherly advice about the way about the way we would pilot the affairs of the House when eventually we come out of recess”, he said .
Other members on his entourage included Hon. Femi Bamishile, Hon. Gibbion Awane and Hon. Samuel Onuigbo.
