Insecurity: bandits kills about17 vigilante in ambush in Niger State

Barely twenty four hours after the Niger state Governor ,Abubakar Sanni Bello commended the Security Agencies for flushing out undesirable elements from the North Central part of the country, the bandits took the battle to his home state.

As at Thursday a total of seventeen vigilante members in the state have been killed in an ambush staged by the armed bandits.

According to our findings, local security men were killed at Dukku in Rijau Local Government Area on their way trying to neutralise the bandits following a tip off.

An eye witness revealed during a telephone interview in Minna that the bandits numbering over one hundred and twenty were said to be riding forty motorcycles during the operation.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy Alh Muhammmad Sani Idris who confirmed the incident however said the number of deceased is yet to be ascertained.

Alh Muhd Sani Idris said already the state government has taken serious security measure to tackle such challenges.

He said though they will not be announcing the strategy adopted to rid the state of criminal elements but very soon they will be addressing Journalists on their success story on security breakthrough.

Alh Muhammad Sani Idris said Chief of Staff Government House Alh Ibrahim Balarabe has been assign to represent Governnor Abubakar Sani Bello to visit and sympathize with victims of bandit attacks in Kagara Rafi Local Government Area.

Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe , the Chief of Staff to the state governor is from Kagara town , headquarters of Rafi local government which was attacked by the gunmen on Wednesday night where a branch of an old generation bank was also vandalised.

The Vigilante members were also said to have killed two bandits in an exchange of gun fire while corpses of Vigilante members were still in the bush under the control of bandits who vowed not to surrender them for burial.

The Image Maker of the State Police Public Command ,ASP Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached for comment at the time of filling in this report.

It was further gathered that all the Security Chiefs in the state have mobilized to the troubled areas as at the time of filing in this report.
